There are many ways to enhance and build clown skills. From learning different types of performing skills like magic, juggling, mime, physical comedy, slapstick comedy, stand-up comedy, comedy balloon twisting……… just about anything, dramatic or comical, can be turned into a comedic adventure for clowns and audiences alike. (I am currently working on a bit using just zippers and sound effects). There are also clowns who simply go on stage with no material, nothing planned and simply see where the emptiness takes them. Two clowns who are masters of this type of emptiness are Matthew Silver https://www.instagram.com/silver.matthew/reels/ and Ryan Daniel Pater https://www.instagram.com/ry2p2/ the co-hosts of The Idiot’s Hour https://www.instagram.com/the_idiots_hour/ every Wednesday night, 8pm at Baker Falls on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Both go up with little or no plan and just go with wherever the audience and their intuition take them. I am happy to say that next week (January 26th through Jan 28th) I will be participating in a workshop led by these two masters called “Cliff Jumping–Master the Art of Performing by the Seat of Your Pants” I am looking forward to working with Ryan and Matthew as I always find their workshops to be fun and challenging and a great place to just let loose and be silly, serious, sophisticated or any emotion/persona that comes up in the moment. The workshop participants will then perform, (by the seats of our pants of course!) at the Idiot’s Hour on Wednesday, January 28th at Baker Falls at 8pm as part of the larger show.https://www.eventbrite.com/e/128-the-idiots-hour-tickets-1980414711714 Come on out!
